Pre Game:
The Highlanders always seem to be a good team and the AL West always gives us another team. With the Red Sox having an off year, the Highlanders were able to step back in the playoffs as were the Naps.
Highlanders:
After years of seeing the same Highlanders team year in and year out, the Highlanders shook things up to get back to the playoffs. Eddie Cicotte put up another outstanding year and coupled with Ed Reulbach this year is going to be very hard to beat in a series. On offense, the Highlanders are still built around Bill Hinchman who has to be a stronger contender for MVP. Jay Kirke is batting fourth and seems to have settled into a long career. The Highlanders are pretty consistent from top to bottom and an easy out may not be found all game.
Naps:
The Naps still have Ray Collins and he makes this team so much better. He is a sure bet for the Pitcher of the Year (30-10 1.88) and is a sure thing to win at least 2-3 games in this series. He alone could be a difference maker. The rest of the rotation does not have big names, but has arms that can get people out. The Naps also have a very solid offense with no real easy out, but they may lack the big heavy hitter that is sure to drive someone in.
Prediction: I am going to go with the NY Highlanders. Ray Collins could be the difference maker, but I think the Naps will have a tough time scoring runs.

This is becoming sort of a league tradition with you picking against the Naps.

The Naps come from the toughest division in the PBA. Not one team in the AL West was under 500 and in fact the worst team in the division had a 512 winning percentage! The Naps were the best team in a division that feasted on the the other division. Naps. baby!

Game One:
The Naps had the game in the bag all game until the 9th inning where the Highlanders scored 5 runs and left the Naps with no answers. Walter Moser ended up pitching a complete game giving up 8 hits and 4 runs (3 ER), while Vinegar Bill Essick went 8.1, but that 9th inning was just too much.
3b Jim Delahanty batted 9th and put on a showcase to be named player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and 1 run scored. When you get that sort of production from the 9 hole, it is hard to lose.
The Highlanders came through in the 9th, but in order to beat this Naps team they will need to get hot earlier...or maybe the 9th is enough for them.

Game Two:
The Naps are not going down without a fight and matched the Highlanders hit for hit (12 hits for each club). The Highlanders scored 4 runs in the 2nd and looked like they were on their way to a victory. Not for the Naps!
Beals Becker set an AL Playoff record with 4 runs in the game! Congrats!
Les Backman for the Highlanders had a horrible game giving up 12 hits and 9 runs (7 ER) over 6.1 IP. It was an ugly game for him and the Highlanders. The Highlanders have to put this game behind them. A short memory is required.
The Naps have to build off of this victory and get their confidence back.
Tied 1-1

Game 3:
The Naps won this game early with a 8-4 score. Both teams trotted their aces to the mound Eddie Knuckles Cicotte vs Ray Collins. Collins gave up 15 hits but was able to spread them out with Ciciotte getting pulled after 3.1 IP with an injury.
The Naps have pulled ahead in the series, but the Highlanders are not done yet.

Game 4:
We are inching closer towards an all NY World Series. The Highlanders take out the Naps 11-3 in a smash of a game to tie the series.
SP Hugh Bedient for the Naps only last 3 IP and gave up 8 hits and 8 runs and reliever Frank Beebe didn't do too much better in the next 5 IP. Ed Reulbach pitched well enough to keep the Highlanders in the game and give them the win. 15,899 fans showed up to root their hometown team on.

Game 5:
With the teams in NY, the Naps was able to win...but barely. With 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, the Highlanders were able to come just a hair from taking the lead.
Neither Bill Essick nor Walter Moser pitched very good games and it really came down to who was able to hit the ball more. George Stone was named player of the game after going 3 for 4 with 1 run, 1 BB and 1 RBI.
Babe Borton has really let the Highlanders down for the series batting only .071. They need a big game from him to stay in this.

Game 6:
After a nationwide vote and 60% of voters saying the Naps would beat the Highlanders it came true today. The Naps scored 6 to the Highlanders 4.
The Highlanders lacked the starting pitching and really need to take a look at that in the off season. With Len Backman pitching a go home game, improvement is needed.
Ed Ross pitched decent (not enough to beat a Cardinals team). 12,706 fans showed up to see Cleveland shut up the Highlanders for good.
Silent John Hummel won player of the game going 4-4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI to bat .476 for the series and be named MVP of the series. Not bad for a #7 hitter.
The Naps need to turn their focus to the Cardinals and what is sure to be a challenge.
