Here are the top 10 free agent hitters.
1. Claude Rossman -- 29 RF -- At 29 years old, Rossman has the biggest potential to get a big contract during free agency. He is coming off a down year (.257 68 RBI), but he has the biggest upside and at his age he could be around for another ten years. He makes good, if not great, contact. He won't be the next Ty Cobb, but he could be an effective team leader and hit in the 5 hole for a lot of teams.
2. Charlie Hemphill -- 34 1b -- If a team needs a good first baseman, they could do much worse than Eagle Eye. He had a poor season (.222), but with his history it could just be a product of playing for a bad team.
3. Danny Murphy -- 34 3b -- Murphy has produced in the past and he played good last year despite only hitting .218 (VORP 8.1). Murphy can still play in the big leagues and he can start. He may latch on with a good team as a backup.
4. Myron Grimshaw -- 34 1b -- Myron is an interesting player and is coming off a very good season (VORP 13.4) and can play very well in the PBA. He could be a steal or he could land a huge contract. It depends on how much people are paying attention. He still has 4-5 years left.
5. John McGraw -- 37 3b -- A lot of teams could use a good 3b and here he is. Sure he has lost a step, but he can still get on base and make things happen. It should be interesting to see if he gets a deal or not.

Grimshaw should be on top of this list. He should get a big contract. Free agency is a little lean this year, but from the signings I have seen, not too many people have money to bid anyway.

McGraw is getting long in the tooth, but might add some speed to someone.
