With a 53-109 and having the worst record in the 1908 campaign, the Senators were determine to play .500 ball for the 1909 season. With a pitching staff of Joe Wood, Frosty Thomas, Al Orth and a key acquistion of Pete Dowling, the Senators has a record of 46-50. Dowling is 10-6 with a 2.06 era and 1.06 whip since the trade with the Red Sox. The season started off promising with the team trailing the first place Red Soxs by only 3 games in May. The months of June and July has not been kind to these Senators, with a combine 17-26 record. Newly drafted 25 year old Jake Daubert, who was the #1 overall pick in this year first-year draft, has not delivered his promising offensive tools. Hopefully in the second half of the season, Daubert can produced along with Wheat who continues to be the team's most valuable player. Time will tell.
