Just to mention it,
Free Agent Compensation has worked as it should thus far. Just learning this for myself now with OOTP X.
You can check draft order for the 1908 season under the PBA menu
Free Agents/First Year Player Draft Order
You can also quickly double check the comp status of all Free Agents by going to PBA/Free Agents and then asking for the Financial Info under the "View" tab.
Type As net a sandwich pick and the signing team's first or second round pick, depending upon whether the signing team is in the top or bottom half of the draft order.
Type Bs now get a sandwich pick only, no loss for the buyer.
The Superbas and Browns have lost picks through Type A signings.
The Phillies, Doves and Reds have gained picks through FA losses. Again, all correctly accounted for, according to the FA comp values at the time of signing.
In real baseball I think there's a deadline after which players lose their Type A/B status for signing purposes. But I don't think that exists in OOTP X. OOTP 9 somewhat arbitrarily adjusted comp status for players as the off-season progressed. Other players seem to remain Type A or B indefinitely. Heck, my old pitcher Bill Carrick is still a Type A for some reason in our league, more than a year after I let him walk. Somebody sign him quick, before he petrifies.

From what I read when researching this awhile back, OOTP X is supposed to have completely corrected the Type A/B compensation and once the season officially starts - I'm not sure what date that is - the compensation is supposed to go away.
I'm kinda afraid to try it since I already lost a top 2nd round pick in OOTP 9 unexplainably (and by that, I mean, even the Commish doesn't know why I lost it, yet he still kept the pick from me and didn't return it). But its supposed to have been corrected.
I'm also curious how high your pick has to be to not lose it? Meaning, I didn't sign any Type A free agents this year because I didn't want to lose my #2 pick. But from reading your post, it looks like I may have had nothing to worry about. Do you know what the cut off is?

Top half of the draft order is immune to losing first round picks. For us, that's the first 8 picks. The Browns, picking sixth, lost a second-round pick to the Phillies when they signed Heinie Wagner, even though he was a Type A free agent.

Thanks!
