John McGraw has the Orioles in shape and training for the 1901 season. I will be posting more information very soon.

It is time for an update from the Baltimore Orioles front office. Our first place record has come sort of as a surprise. Of course we had hoped for success, but we didn't think it would come this quick nor this easy. It is only June 8th, but 30 wins out of 40 is a very good start. Team manager John McGraw has led this team with a winning attitude: on the field and off.
Steve Brodie has led the team on offense with a .370 average and 36 runs knocked in. Jimmy Williams has also been a force all year. These two have combined to lead one of the best offenses in the PBA. The Orioles are first in nearly every offensive category in the American League (batting average, on base, slugging, OPS, runs, hits, strikeouts, and stolen bases). This offense is strong, forceful, and balanced.
The pitching is almost as good. They are second in every category except walks and strikeouts (4th and 7th). The rotation is led by Joe McGinnity (5-2 3.38) and then falls to Rookie of the Year hopeful Stan Yerkes (8-2 2.00). Yerkes might end up winning the pitcher of the year award. Jerry Nops, in the 4th slot, has been equally if not better this year (7-1 1.95). With a staff like this, the American League might want to try to take one of these guys out when sliding into second base!
Overall, we are very happy with the team and the direction. Normally, this is where we would add some players but with the limited amount of players in the league a trade may be hard. We are looking forward to the upcoming first year player draft.

It has been a while since I've acknowledged the fans as the GM and owner of this franchise. After winning the Wrold Series it seems the team no longer clicked, or the Americans just got lucky or that much better. Needless to say, last year was just a disappointment overall.
This year we thought things would bounce back to normal. The first part of the year was not easy, but things are getting better.
After a move from Baltimore to New York, we felt like financially we would be on much better ground. We really wanted to stay in Baltimore, but the fans and the city were just not willing to do what it took for us to stay there. New York is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the States, so we should be okay for the future.
The big news this season has been the trading of 3b John McGraw. The local newspapers have beat us up over this trade citing our move to New York as a cash cow. McGraw is a very talented player and gets on base better than any man (in the PBA or otherwise!). But the cost of McGraw (over 30,000K a year) was too much when were not winning. Albeit, this has been the hardest trade I've ever had to make. If we were winning, this trade would not have been made. To make matters worse, we went 8-2 in our last 10 bringing us to within 5.5 games from the top of the division.
The Cubs were a very good trading partner and they gave us fair value for McGraw. The hope is this trade makes us better.

Tigers and Highlanders Make Deal -- The Tigers are rebuilding and the Highlanders are trying to win a division and this makes them perfect trading partners. The Tigers wre looking for pitching, the Highlanders had pitching depth; The HIghlanders need a bit more pop in the lineup and the Tigers had a good hitter to deal for a surplus of talent... this made them perfect trading partners.
The Highlanders traded OF Cy Seymour, SP Bob Dresser and SP prospect Bill Salisbury to the Tigers for Harry Lumley. Seymour hasn't been a starter since 1902, but the man has starting ability but was stuck in a crowded outfield. He showed up every day and played his heart out. He's currently hitting .323 and should like playing in Detroit. Bill Salisbury has yet to play in the majors, but he is a very good prospect. Salisbury is a workhorse logging 150.2 IP last year and has already pitched 135.2 this year. He is ready for the majors and should fit in nicely at the bottom of the Tigers rotation. But the biggest pickup for the Tigers is future ace Bob Dresser. Dresser is only 25 and ready to take the step he could not take in NY behind Big Ed Walsh and Harry Howell. He is ready to lead a pitching staff that is his. Last year was Bob's first full year in the majors and he did not disappoint. He pitched 237.1 innings and went 13-16 and a 3.26 ERA. That is good numbers for a rookie! He has already built on that season with a 3-0 record and 2.76 ERA (career numbers: 21-19 2.93). Bob is a huge pickup for the Tigers in their rebuilding process.
Harry "Judge" Lumley is a good pickup for the Highlanders who needed someone to play RF with a cannon arm. Trust me, nobody will run on this guy! The Judge was a homegrown talent in Detroit, but he was a tradeable piece to add a few parts in Detroit. Lumley should be able to transcend into a doubles machine and might be a perfect 2 or 4 hitter. He is hitting .333 and a .367 obp and a .417 Slugging. His numbers should improve in New York.
Highlanders Make Another Trade -- The Highlanders made another trade mere hours after closing in on a deal with Detroit. The Highlanders closed a deal with the Americans to add SP Cy Young and OF Billy Hamilton. Hamilton has already been elected to the Hall of Fame (he came out of retirement) and the Hall of Fame is in the future for Cy Young. While both are past their prime seasons, they should be able to contribute to the Highlanders this season and help them win the division. Cy steps in as the 3rd starter behind Howell and Big Ed and Slidin' Billy will be an all purpose backup. While giving up the young pitching had to be tough, this puts them in a win now mode.

5-25-1908
The New York Highlanders are facing a tough battle this year with the Boston Red Sox holding down the best record the PBA has ever seen. For the most part, we have been able to keep this team together over the years building up from within and it has led us to two World Series titles, but I fear the Red Sox might be unbeatable this year. This year, Harry Howell continues to be the ace of the staff leading us with a 6-4 record and 1.76 ERA. He could be on his way to a Pitcher of the Year Award. Tanny (Jesse Tannehill) has been struggling this year after blowing the league away last year. He is still one of the best pitchers that the PBA has ever seen, so I have no doubt he will bounce back. Ed Walsh has yet to become the dominating force everyone thought he would.
Losing OF Harry Lumley to injury for a period of time really hurts the offense. The offense has not clicked very well this year. Fred Merkle has proven he can hit the ball, but Mike Donlin (Turkey Mike) needs to get on base a whole heck of a lot more. I have no doubt this team will score runs, they just need to hold water until the Red Sox come back to Earth.

It has been a while since the Highlanders manager has been open to speak publicly. Ownership put a no talking to the press ban on and it has just been lifted. How odd that it is just as the Highlanders climb back on top of the AL East.
The faces have changed, but not by much. Long time ace Harry Howell was sent to the DL. His career is winding down, but he is still one of the best. It is no surprise that OF Bill Hinchman is still leading this team (.313 6 3b 2 HR 42 RBI). He is rarely named with the best players in the league, but every year he puts up MVP type numbers.
The Highlanders are once again relying on great pitching led by Aces Eddie Cicotte and Ed Reulbach. The Highlanders are going to be very tough to beat in a short series. It is just now July, so we don't want to get ahead of where we are, but the rest of the division looks very bad so far.
