The New York Giants are the sleeping "giants" (pun intended). We are ready to compete, win, and take home a championship! We are spending money to get our key guys under long term contracts.
Right now, we are planning on building the team around Addie Joss and Christy Mathewson. Anyone else is available in the right deal. We really need to add some offense to the club, but might have to go with pure defense in order to win this year.
Fear us or we will show you why you should.

The NY Giants are primed for the start of the season. After trying to add offense numerous times, we finally landed what we considered to be the best hitter in free agency and at a bargain! Jessie Crab Burkett is just the sort of hitter we need in the middle of our lineup. The Crab is the sort of fellow who makes strong contact and knows how to turn a single into a double. After years of playing on bad teams (ha ha), it is time for him to come to NY where if they can score enough runs we can win. The pitching will keep us in nearly every single game, but it will all come down to scoring runs. If we can get 2-3 runs a game, we could be the surprise of the season!

The NY Giants are surprisingly fighting the Boston Beaneaters for first place. While this is a great surprise to ownership and the fans, the players knew it from day one of spring training. Many have cited the Giants as a sleeping giant and only poor management has kept them from competing in the National League. Ace SP Addie Joss had this to say on the topic, "You know management is bad when Christy Mathewson, the Big Six, is left in the bullpen for years on end. I know for a fact that order came from the previous owner. How does someone keep the Big Six in the bullpen? That's just silly to me and that was a point I wanted to make before I re-signed with the team this off season."
SP Ham Iburg spoke on the pre-season chances of the Giants, "When we signed outfielder Jessie Burkett, I knew we would win some games. The Crab is one of the best hitters ever to play this game and the stupid owners in this league didn't even offer him a contract worthy of his ability. At the age of 36, Crab is hitting .316 and only going to get better. Stupid owners." While one may have to agree with his thinking, many were scared off by Burkett's age (36). Burkett had this to say, "You can worry about a guy's age all you want. 24 or 34. It don't matter if you can hit. Would you rather have a guy who is 24 and hits .250 or a guy who is 36 and hits .350?"
Either way, the Giants are being led by their pitching staff and ownership keeps chipping away to make that offense better. If C Nig Clarke can start to hit, this team could be a force. Many are saying it might be the year for the Beaneaters, I for one would not count this team out. Anytime you have Joss and the Big Six going every couple of days, you can run with anyone.

After seeing other teams discuss their franchise, the Giants felt it was time to catch up with their fans.
Offense:
The Giants are not great in any facet on the offensive side of the ball. From the team batting average of .246 (4th in NL) to runs 254 (2nd in NL) to extra base hits 97 (7th in NL), the Giants are middle of the pack. This has been a concern of ours for many years, but other than the addition of Burkett (Crab) not much has been available or worked out for us.
One of our biggest surprises was when we inserted Charlie Babb to play 1b and he has responded with his best year ever (.341 .411 .447 .858). He could be a starter on the all star team and if not a definite backup. Fielder Jones has continued to prove he was a great pick up last year with a .395 on base percentage. SS George Davis might be in his last season with the Giants and he is trying to play for each dollar he hopes to get next year (.304 .359). He is getting on base, scoring runs, and player good defense. C Nig Clarke continues to disappoint. He has been a huge bust since being drafted with the 11th pick overall in the 1904 draft. 3b Bill Bradley got a huge contract this off season and is a bust with a .222 batting average. He plays wonderful defense, so at least they are getting something from this investment.
Pitching:
Pitching has been more of a strength for us. We are 3rd (2.71) in ERA, 3rd in runs allowed (221) and first in opponents avg (.240). Our pitching is what keeps us in games. Since we bought the club, we took Christy Mathewson out of our bullpen and inserted him as our ace. He responded with 22-13 2.81 in 1905 and 11-7 2.53 this year. Ham Iburg has been the best pitcher in the PBA this year and despite our willingness to deal him, we have zero offers. Addie Joss has been a huge disappointment this year (6-9 4.24) and is being moved to the bullpen. This will allow us to give a few starts to Dummy Deegan, Lave Winham, and Bob Rhoads to see what they have. We will give Joss some rest and wait for his return in a couple of weeks.
Overall:
The Giants are currently in 3rd place with a 34-30 record and 3.5 games back of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are a big surprise this year. They seem to lose great players each and every year and they continue to draft well and their young players always seem to come through. First round pick Dode Paskert is still playing in AAA since he is only batting ..250 ( but with a .400 on base), but they may use him this year to play for Curt Bernard.

It has been a long time since we have had anything to write about. We didn't have high hopes for this season entering it, but we knew if a couple of balls drop our way good things could happen. Currently, we are in second place behind the newly named Doves. The Superbas and Pirates do not look all that great this year, so we could be in for a first or second place season. All credit has to go to John McGraw who has these boys looking pretty good.
The rotation looks to have turned the corner and the double aces are back. Christy Mathewson (5-3 1.93) and Addie Joss (4-2 2.13) are looking unhittable. And when you add Ham Iburg (4-4 2.48) and Ed Summers (6-2 1.90) to the mix, this might be the best staff in the PBA.
We are pretty happy with our offense so far this year. Steve Evans has become a hitting machine (.373 .455 obp 10 RBI) and with the return of Dode Paskert (.306 .75 obp 9 games) our offense is looking to get better. Roger Bresnahan might be 28, but he is still able to get on base and contribute in a big way. This offense is pretty good on top and lacking on the bottom which we hope to shore up through a trade or the draft.

The 1912 first year draft has come and go and the Giants were able to add quite a few youngsters to our roster and even one player who is going to be slotted in the coveted third spot in the lineup. LF Joe Connolly was the first pick in the draft for us and we fill the combination of him, John Williams, and Steve Evans is good enough to hit with the Cardinals.
In addition, Bubbles Hargrove and Eric Younger have a huge future with the Giants. Bubbles will see major league time this year and will try to fight his way to be the starting catcher. While Younger will have to take a longer road to the big leagues. He has exceptional talent, but has yet to put it together. At the ripe old age of 18, he will have a few good shots and years to do just that.
Lastly, we are excited about 1b Wally Pipp. Pipp should prove to be a good major leaguer.
The Giants are currently battling with the Superbas for first place and we might need to trade a chip or two in order to get to the playoffs. We are fighting a lot of injuries this year, but we are not giving up!
